1. The advantages and disadvantages of living in a large city

Nowadays, a large number of people are tending to move into the city to live in spite of the fact that there are so many problems and drawbacks in inner city areas.
First and foremost, the crime rate is much higher in the city; it is not safe to walk the streets at night or leave anything unlocked. A further disadvantages, high levels of pollution such as air, water and noisy pollution can make our life shorter. Moreover, cities are over crowded places. Life in the city is a rat race therefore fine to work in but not to live in. Finally, large city areas have not only danger of traffic but also insufficient recreation grounds for children.
On the other hand, easy access to all facilities and a wide range of courses are available. For example educational facilities, health service hospitals, career academies, libraries, more schools and colleges. In addition, quick access to public transports which makes life easier, cheaper and convenient. Generally thinking, major cities have airports, bus and train terminals. Furthermore, entertainment such as cinema, restaurant, theatre, sports centre is easy to find. Last but not least, as a result of living in a large city with some conveniences we can be offered a full social life.
In conclusion, it can be seem that the city is more suitable for some people than others. To sum up, professional people have many advantages from living in the city. However, young couples with family and retired folk can enjoy peace and quite in the country. Personally speaking, as young married man with small son I would prefer to live in the country. he city. However, young couples with family and retired folk can enjoy peace and quite in the country. Personally speaking, as young married man with small son I would prefer to live in the country.

2. In certain countries children are not allowed to leave school until they reach a certain age, for example, in some countries it is 15 years.

One feature of improved education systems around the world has been an increase in the period of compulsory schooling for students. In many developed countries students are now required to stay at school until they are 15 years of age.
There are quite plausible reasons for opposing this policy. Low-income families, for example, may not be able to afford to keep their children at school and may resent governments imposing this decision on them. In many developing countries children can bring in much needed income, either by working in family agricultural activities, or else through paid employment. Compulsory schooling might also be opposed on educational grounds. Recent studies have shown that compulsory school can be psychologically damaging for students who are not motivated to learn. They may be more ready to learn later on as adults when their motivation is stronger.
But there are also strong reasons why students should be obliged to remain at school until a certain age. First, at a young age students are unlikely to be sufficiently mature to make sensible decisions about their lives. We should not allow students to make decisions they may later regret. A second reason is that in today’s society, where increasingly high levels of skills and knowledge are required of the work force, early school leavers will find in very difficult to obtain employment.
It is my view that schooling should be compulsory until a certain age. Education authorities, however, must ensure that the education provided is both affordable to families and relevant and interesting to students. (257 words)

3. People's access to good health care should not depend on social factors such as their level of income or social status.

All people should have access to adequate health care. It is difficult to argue against this proposition. In theory most people would agree with it. But in practice it is more difficult to find countries where it is actually true.
Health care systems, such as in the United States, where a large proportion of the population cannot afford health insurance, are most undesirable in social terms. People are not cared for properly if they suffer a serious accident or become seriously ill. Yet in the same country the very best in medical services are available to those with the capacity to pay. Are we at the point where we accept that the life of a rich person is worth more than that of a poor person?
Governments have a responsibility to provide basic health services to all the population. However, governments always have limited resources, and they have a responsibility to use these in an efficient and effective manner. For example, it is difficult to justify governments’ spending money on expensive medical procedures such as cancer research, if this diverts resources away from the primary objective of equal access to health care for all. The argument then turns on what kind of health care system should be supported by governments.
Preventive health care is one area where government needs to take the lead. Money spent on preventing disease is more than repaid by money saved in not having to treat that disease at a later time. Public health programs to eradicate diseases such as typhoid and smallpox are a good example where the benefits flow on to all people, regardless of income or social status. More recently, government sponsored fluoridation programs have played a major part in reducing the incidence of tooth decay, with significant improvements in general health and enormous savings in dental bills for ordinary people. 4. Development of Technology

"Society never advances. It recedes as fast on one side as it gains on the other."
Although written long ago these words by, Ralph Waldo Emerson still hold true today. Everyday in society people are making improvements, however, but these improvements also have equal drawbacks. Today we are using cutting edge technology to improve every aspect of our daily lives.
Technology has helped increase the speed of communication and decrease its cost. However, at the same time it has caused people to become more impersonal with each other. In earlier times the major form of communication was for people to visit each other and go to public meeting places. Due to the telephone people no longer went to the public meeting places as often as they used to. As time goes on, new advances still allow people to contact and communicate with each other more easily. These advances such as faxes, beepers, and electronic mail, although seemingly making life easier, each help to decrease the earlier forms of communication.
As technology continues to advance and society moves "forward", people continue to use the less personal forms of communication, and create new problems in the field of medicine. The fear of becoming a society, which communicates only through machines, and creates new disease, is becoming greater with time.

6. Water Pollution

Water pollution needs to be stopped. Pollution of lakes rivers, streams, and oceans has been killing land and water animals for years. Polluting water is a horrible act and will be stopped.
Oil spills are one of--if not the worst types of pollution. They happen most often in the ocean and then get spread around by tides and currents where they enter streams and rivers and cover everything. They kill life and pollute more in a short amount of time than pesticides and human waste combined in about 1 year.
Radioactive Waste is also a very serious problem polluting the lakes and oceans. Submarines release some radioactivity into the water. If a submarine ever crashed enough radioactivity would be released to destroy a region of about 300 sq. miles (this happens because of the nuclear engines)
Eventually water pollution will cause there to be no life in the ocean, lakes, and rivers. All the dumping of waste into the water will cause all the water creatures to die off and there will be no tolerable areas for life or people to swim, or anything at all.
Why do we need to pollute the lakes, rivers, streams, and oceans? Millions of animals are killed by water pollution not to mention the 10,000,000 people who die each year from drinking polluted water. If we all would just spend a bit more time doing what is right and not be so lazy, we wouldn't be killing ourselves and animals. Please help stop polluting.

7. Are We Addressing The Needs Of Our Schools?

There are many problems that need to be addressed in the public schools today. What factors are causing these problems in the schools? The main causes are absence of prayer, the many pressures of school, lack of dress code, and insufficient numbers of caring teachers, faculty, and students.
When I say lack of prayer in the schools, I don't mean lets make everyone one religion and every morning at school we can pray in that one religion. Instead there should be a moment of silence. Not to take up time but to let everyone have a moment to pray to whomever or however they wish. For the kid who's grandpa died and has to go to school because they need their two points for this six weeks. And the ones who wish not to pray can take that moment to just think. Lord knows us we high school students don't have much time to just stop and think.
There are many pressures in the public schools. All of a sudden in high school everything changes. Everyone takes that first merger into "the real world". As a junior there is much more pressure put on the students. One minute a sophomore thinking "Yeah I'm going to college". While the next as a junior thinking "How on earth am I going to get to college". Now that we are juniors we are suppose to be grown up. Everything from "Where am I getting my gas money?" to "Where am I going to college?" is going through our minds all of the time, and yet some how we are supposed to come out calm and prosperous. All of this pressure and many of young adults do not get a chance to let it out. It is like tossing a human body in to outer space with no protection.
It is no wonder that we have all of the problems in our schools. We have no organization, the students don't understand what dress code means and the administration doesn't understand that they aren't supposed to bend rules for relatives. The teachers, parents, and faculty aren't any additional help. It's ironic that with all the things students have to worry about, now we have to worry about the safety of going to school. Whether it be the ride to school on the bus, being at school, or being discriminated against.

8. Is the Death Penalty an Effective Punishment?

Is the Death Penalty an Effective Punishment? Yes. In at least one
important respect, it is. It simply cannot be argued that a
killer, once executed, can ever kill again. The Death Penalty does
not stop people from killing others. The only thing it does stop is
killers from killing people again.
Some statistics indicate that Capital Punishment has killed more blacks then whites and more poor then rich. There is nothing wrong with the Death Penalty. If someone kills another they should be punished. This process cost over 400,000 of dollars.
I would say my that money is well spent. If it is going to stop a crazy
man from killing again then so be it. I don't know if it is immoral
or cruel. I do know that no human should be able to play the part of God
or the Devil. People are suppose to live and die, we can't make someone
live if there no life. We can stop someone from dying when there alive.
The moral issue here is: Do we have the right to kill, or is that the right
of God only? This does not excuse one who takes the life of another.

9. Women's rights

Human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.?
As of today, women's rights are generally improving, but much advancement is still needed. Hopefully in the 21st century, the worldwide women's rights movement will see more progress. With the support of the internet and news media, people throughout the world are becoming more informed about the atrocities commited against women and the need for women's rights. The Universal Declaration for Human Rights is constantly being updated because more people are demanding that there should be written laws for the humane treatment of women around the world. Since the beginning of time, women have always been treated as inferior to men. The fact of the matter is that the situation will not change overnight. As more people become informed about women's rights and become indignant about the abuses, positive changes for women will surely occur.
In conclusion, inequalities and atrocities against women are still occurring today. Although some progress has been made and the world is becoming better informed about the plight of these women, further actions are needed immediately to promote the welfare and human rights in some 3rd countries as well as in the rest of the world

10. Physical Punishment

Physical punishment has been a problem in hitting their children so they can have discipline or not hitting them because it is not right, so what can parents do and what can they not do? Should the parents hit them to learn discipline, or should they not hit them and figure out another way to make them learn what discipline is?
Because many parents do not know or are confused in showing their children how to gain discipline they do not know whether to hit them or not to hit them. Many people think that by hitting their children that they are showing them violence but other people say that if you do the children would understand that they did something wrong and would not repeat it and gain discipline. What can parents do?
First of all parents feel that the children are theirs, and they can spank them when they misbehave. There are many factors that lead to physical punishment: parents were to young and not ready for children, parents are going trough a divorce and need to take out their anger on something or someone, or parents do not know another way to punish their children. These children grow up to be aggressive and often abusive towards others.
There are other alternatives to punishing the children for their bad behavior. Less severe punishments besides spanking. First, they can take away their television privileges, computer use, and playing outside with their friends.
In conclusion every parent must take consideration that the negative affects that spanking may cause a child. Spanking your children may make massive changes in your child's personality. He or she may grow up to believe that violence is acceptable in everyday life. And thus this will be a never-ending cycle because they will think it is okay because their parents did it. If a child grows up to believe this negative behavior, they will do the same thing with their children. Overall we know that physical punishment is not the answer to gain discipline for your children. Children are very smart and can be taught proper behavior in a more positive manner

11. Is Television Good Or Bad?

Television is not a bad thing, but in fact is a resource that can be used to educate and entertain people of all ages. There are many programs on television, which do not educate, because everyone needs to be entertained.
I feel that television is a resource that is not used to the full extent that it could be. Television programs that educate are scarce and those that do educate are often on during the day when children are at school. Television stations should organise their programs so that the education shows are shown when children get home from school (3:30 - 4:30) so that the children will be able to learn while enjoying themselves at home.
Schools often use television as a way of educating students because on television, they can demonstrate many things that cannot be done in the classroom, and often show things that cannot be experienced in the country or area where the school is located. I think that this is an excellent use of television and more use should be made of it in education, because it offers many advantages to classroom teaching.
In general, television is an excellent resource, even though it is not always used to it's full potential, it entertains and (sometimes) educates. Television would be one of the most useful resources if some important changes were made.

12. Should the Govt. Interfere in an Economy of A Country?

The economy of a country affects everyone living in it and the type of economy changes your values, your hopes, and especially your reality. I feel that total government control has many more advantages than a market economy and controlled economy gives a country a connected feeling.
My first reason promoting total government interference is that the govt. supports handicapped and people with physical disabilities. I attended a speaker in our school's conference and she told us a great deal about the mentally ill. Many of them live in a free market system and they are homeless because they are unable to get jobs to support themselves. Competition is much too great in the market economy. In the controlled system, the mentally ill would get the same benefits as any other working person. Because of this, the mentally ill are able to eat, to be clothed, to have a roof over their heads, and basically survive. The government and the work force meet their basic needs.
Secondly, in a controlled economy there is little supply and demand. The government controls everything and does not allow the prices to rise and dip extremely This makes a controlled economy much more steady and secure.
I feel that a controlled economy suits everyone's needs nicely and there is a sense of order involved. Baseball teams have always needed coaches to help in the organization process; just because things are changing very quickly doesn't mean that the image of a boss will ever be lost.

13. Politicians - election campaign

In politics it would be novel to have a gracious rival. Modern political campaigners might take a lesson in graciousness and kindness from the great British statesman, Edward Campbell .
Once when Campbell was opposing Thackereay for a seat in Parliament, the two contenders, in course of their campaigning, met and engaged in friendly conversation.
Every time election year rolls around we begin to hear the usual complaints of how politics is morally corrupt. It typically means we get to see the superficial image-oriented campaigning, negative attacks against one's opponent, and the commercials that intrrupt our favorite sitcom. Experts note that the rates of political participation in the United States, as measured by the percentage of eligable voters who register and actually cast their ballot, has been dropping for years, in part due to the fact that citizens are disgusted with the conduct of political campaigns.
From this we can clearly see overall impact of this type of politics does in fact cause the populus acts in 3 ways:
1)don't watch televison
2)don't care and
3)don't vote.
This then brings us to the point of how this is harmful to democracy. As I stated before it turns political campaigning into a childlike game for power.
It is these childlike games for power that causes people to question the validity of politics itself.
But more importantly for myself I seek a candidate that sees the world as I do. I beilve Professor David Tabb summed it up in the statement: 'I don't care what you (the candidate) can do for everyone, but what can you do for me.'

14. Animal rights - animal research

Animal rights activists feel that animal research is immoral. They do not see where we as human beings see or feel that we are the dominant species. They often assert that research with animals causes severe pain and that many research animals are abused.
However, animal research is an integral part of today's society when thinking of how much progress we have gained in human health with the use of animal experimentation.
Forty-one Nobel prizes have been awarded to scientists whose achievements depended on laboratory animals. Vaccines against polio, diphtheria, mumps, measles, rubella, and smallpox would not have been possible without such experiments. There also would not be such important techniques such as open heart surgery, brain surgery, coronary bypass, The list goes on about the medical advances that required animal research.
In addition, there are no alternatives to animal experimentation that can give the same results that it can. In certain research investigations, cell, tissue, organ cultures, and computer models can be used at least in the preliminary phases of the investigation. However, in many experimental situations, culture techniques and computer models do not capture the "physiological complexity" of the whole animal. Some examples of where animals are necessary in research include the development of a vaccine against HIV and improvement of methods to relieve mental stress and anxiety. These challenges can only be addressed by research with animals.
Animal research is necessary to maintain our society's well being. Many people think it is morally wrong but when the advantages are considered with the disadvantages, the good outweighs the bad. Animal Research is necessary to continued progress in human health. If other methods were available they would be given a fair chance but for now only animal experimentation works best. If all of the advances in human health were taken away our society would still be in a primitive age. Animal research has taken us out of that age.

15. Divorce

I am here to give my thoughts and opinions on the issue of now in this 20th century, the increased rate of children developing mentally without a fatherly figure in the family is harming the children's development.
children have lost a parent to divorce, with an effect that some sociologists now say can be "worse than a parent's death."
So as we all can see now that marriage break ups are at a increased rate and still the rate continues to increase. But how is this affecting our children?
Divorce is consistently associated with juvenile emotional disorders, crime, suicide, promiscuity and later marital break-up."
The statistics back this statement up. In 1992 1 in 3 women were assaulted by a domestic partner, that's four million in a single year and the primary reason is divorces and marital problems. When children are exposed to this, they learn from it unfortunatly. The sadder thing for the women is that a man will receive on average for killing his partner 2 to 6 years of imprisionment. While women who kill their partners are given 15 years on average.
Most children, may be now by objecting to listen to what their parents say, they may not take full head to the advice, but it is still there. Our parents contribute 90% of our emotional benefit. They are the people we have to fall back on if we are sad, or confused. And recent surveys have indicated that children that don't open up to parents or mentors have trouble expressing their feelings later on in life, and become insensitive.
My argument is that if a parent promotes a certain view of a race, or person. Ie: homophobia, racism against blacks or whites or asians, whichever, the child will learn from this and have this in their head. and may become a detrimental part of society.
In conclusion to this, I would like to refresh all arguments presented in this delivery. A child who witnesses divorces or domestic violence in a family is likely to become a part of youth problem. On the other hand it may seem better for the parents to split up.
I have taken both sides to this argument, and I am certain there is other sides to it as there normally is in most cases. The real question is What is harming our children? Parents breaking up? Or Parents not breaking up? I think it's just the marital arrangement, and that people have abused this over the years, thus abusing their child either mentally or physically.

16. Smoking

I feel that there should be laws against smoking. Right now there are laws against buying them. You have to be 21 to buy cigarette. But my question is if you have to be 21 why do people under 21 have possession of cigarette?
We all already know that smoking is bad for you. On the news all the time they have something about smoking and why it is so bad for you. Even on the cigarette box there is a surgeon general message. This message is a note saying that Cigarette are hazardous to your health. But still millions of people still are smoking. I see it like this... If they put a label on a cigarette box saying "These will eventually kill you" people will still smoke it. We all know the dangers of smoking, why not put a law out to make it illegal?
I think the reason people are not comprehending that smoking is so bad for you, is because they are already addicted and they dont care what it does to them. But if a law made it illegal to sell. Then many people would not have access to cigarettes. So they could not smoke and millions of lives would be saved each year. Smoking produces lung cancer that eventually kills you. Your lungs turn black and you can barely breath. Well to me the sound of that makes me sick, and just saying that makes me not want to smoke.
I feel if the government wants to save lives. They should pass a law banning smoking very very soon. But our government is to worried about little side effects and problems, such as riots, and people going crazy. That they won't pass the law.

17. Why do we exercise?

What is exercise? The actual definition of exercise is; to use repeatedly in order to strengthen or develop, exercise is doing programs and workouts to keep fit, for example, running, hiking, bicycling, and any active sport.
Most people do little or no exercise during work or rest hours. Today there aren't many jobs requiring intense physical activity. Instead of walking, people use automobiles or public transportation. Instead of being physically active, people usually watch TV in their free time. Some sports such as bowling, golf, and tennis (doubles) provide some exercise, but do not provide as much exercise as other more vigorous sports.
Exercise is very important and is beneficial both physically and mentally. When you exercise, you feel better about yourself because you are fit or your getting fit and you feel that you have accomplished something that was hard to strive for. The benefits of physical activity is it gives you more energy, it helps you in coping with stress, it improves self-image, and it increases resistance of tiredness.
Exercise does not only keep you fit, it also reduces your chance of heart attack. Various studies have shown that the chance of heart attack is two times more likely to happen to an inactive person than a more active person. It really all adds up because with exercising, you burn off calories, which keeps you at your desirable weight, which lowers your risk of heart disease.
There are risks in exercising though. The major risk in exercising is injury to the muscle or joints. This happens when a person exercises too hard for too long, this mostly happens to people that have been inactive for a while.
Exercising too hard is not good for anyone, however, and is especially dangerous for out-of-shape, middle-aged and older people. It is very important for all people to follow a gradual and sound exercise program.
If you are wondering how long it would take to be in shape, think about this; look at how long you have been out of shape and it will take about that much time to get back in shape if you exercise properly.
With some of this information earlier stated, exercise seems pretty dangerous, but it is not very dangerous at all, you just need to be careful.

18. Cloning

Cloning has been a very controversial topic since it affects moral values of human beings and other living things alike. In February 1997 scientists in Scotland announced the birth of the first cloned sheep named Dolly, this heralded the future of cloning possibilities and scientists began extensive experiments on cloning and have since then cloned both plants and animals successfully. The next step was to clone actual human beings but before experiments could have been carried out pressure started build on the scientists because people started to doubt if cloning was ethical and morally correct.
If cloning were allowed to be experimented scientists would come up of a way to clone body organs which are an exact replica of an individual body organ. This would prove to be very beneficial to a person who may have lost a body organ such as a kidney, scientists could clone that particular organ for the individual, which, in the long run, would work better than a transplant organ.
Cloning will certainly expand the scope of medicine greatly, thus enhance the possibilities of conquering diseases such as the Parkinson's disease, cancer and other diseases that were earlier considered incurable
Cloning could be used to increase the population of endangered species of animals and thus save them from total extinction. This would help maintain a natural balance on the earth
Cloning could certainly benefit couples who are infertile and want to have a child of their own, thus they could use cloning to produce a baby with their similar characteristics. In fact they may be able to even choose the characteristics of their child.
Some people would suggest that cloning is unnatural and not ethically correct but so would be talking medicine when you fall sick. The whole of the modern medicine world in based on unnaturalness, so it seggest that it seems cloning would be part of that modern medicine world. Some people also suggest that clones of human beings would behave in different ways than a normal human being would however this is also wrong as the clones will behave like any other human being would behave as it will have all the characteristics of a normal human being, as long as the individual who was cloned had human characteristics,
In conclusion I would like to say that, as you've seen above, cloning could be used in various ways to benefit the lives of humans .It is inevitable that cloning, at some stage, will play an important, if not vital, part in our lives therefore it is about time that society accepts this fact and lifts all constraints upon cloning so that more research can be carried out and help eliminate any risks associated with cloning.

19. Global Warming

What is global warming, and how is it affecting the Earth and it's inhabitants? Global Warming is sometimes referred to as the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is the absorption of energy radiated from the Earth's surface by carbon dioxide and other gases in the atmosphere, causing the atmosphere to become warmer. The greenhouse effect is what is causing the temperature on the Earth to rise, and creating many problems that will begin to occur in the coming decades.
Today, major changes are taking place. People are conducting an inadvertent global experiment by changing the face of the entire planet. We are destroying the ozone layer, which allows life to exist on the Earth's surface. All of these activities are unfavorably altering the composition of the biosphere and the Earth's heat balance. If we do not slow down our use of fossil fuels and stop destroying, the forests, the world could become hotter than it has been in the past million years. Average global temperatures have risen 1 degree F over the last century. If carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases continue to spill into the atmosphere, global temperatures could rise five to 10 degrees by the middle of the next century.
The warning will be the greatest at the higher latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere, with the largest temperature rises occurring in winter. Most areas will experience summertime highs well above 100 degrees F. New temperature records will be set each year.
if the present melting continues, the sea could rise as much as 6 feet by the middle of the next century. Large tracks of coastal land would disappear. Delicate wetlands, where many species of marine life hatch their young, would be reclaimed by the sea. Vulnerable coastal cities would have to move farther inland or build protective walls against the angry sea.
In conclusion, if there was no greenhouse effect then there would be no global warming. The greenhouse effect causes the global warming to increase as well as humans and other creatures influence. There are many ways to help prevent and protect both. If people try to help out, then it would be a longer process to keep the ozone layer healthy longer. But, nothing will be done until we as humans start helping out.

20. Recycle

In the world today, where the population is inflated every year, the amount of space for landfills decreases every day. The need for recycling should not be asked, it should just be done out of habit. Everyone in the world needs to recycle, to help the landfill problem, help the environment, and help produce new products from recycled goods.
Many people do not practice and use recycling. Consumers and businesses should use the three R’s; recycle, reuse, and recharge . Consumers and businesses are producing more garbage than ever before. As a result, we are rapidly running out of landfill space. This whole garbage problem has forced us to try other options. Many of these options have been very unsuccessful. People have tried burning their garbage, that cause pollution to the environment. Some people even resorted to dropping their trash in the ocean, only to have the very same trash float ashore later. Dumping it on other locals leads to feuding neighbors. Instead of trying to find new ways to dump our trash, we need to find better ways to recycle it and save space in our landfills.
One major way to get people involved with recycling is the environment perspective. Not only would the landfills be cut down the environment gains a lot by having people recycle. So what does the government do to keep the environment clean? They enact laws against litter and waste. One way is the the local requiring the deposit on beer and soft-drink bottles and cans . In those locals, millions of bottles and cans that once were left on beaches, tossed in rivers and parks or thrown along the highways are being taken back to stores . We need recycling programs for old batteries, used motor oil, paper, plastics, metals, and glass. According to environmental groups and government agencies,
Recycling helps reduce landfills, clean up the environment, and it also takes those recycled goods to produce new products. Plastic, the one time enemy of many environmental groups, because of its long lasting, non-biodegradable nature, may actually be a friend after all . Plastic companies are now trying to devise new uses for old plastics and developing biodegradable ones. Plastic containers like milk jugs and soda bottles, are being reprocessed and added to fiberfill linings in ski jackets, pillows, sleeping bags, and even automobile seats .
Recycling can save us all a lot of money if we just do some simple little things. Like taking back pop cans whenever we can, that will just keep those cans out of our rivers and parks. Everyone should get involved with a local recycling program of some sorts. Every city has recycling bins for newspapers, paper, cans, bottles, plastics, almost everything there is. When people get involved, the landfills, and the environment will all be greatly improved. So take the time to recycle and the world will truly be a beautiful place to live.

21. Human rights

Human rights are what make us human. When we speak of the right to life, or development, or to dissent and diversity, we are speaking of tolerance. Tolerance will ensure all freedoms. Without it, we can be certain of none.
The raging ethnic cleansing in Kosovo was an example of intolerance. The Serbians would not tolerate the Albanians at any cost. They are forcing them from their homes, turning the streets into killing fields. This civil war seems unstoppable because of the intolerance of one race against another. No respect for individual rights, basic human rights.
Another example is right in our own back yard. I am speaking of hate crimes which plague our society. They are no different today than centuries ago when slavery was allowed. One race against another. One religion against another, it is all the same. Hate is the opposite of tolerance. We can only live together through an expression of tolerance of the differences each of us brings into this world. We should embrace the differences and share the differences. For this is how we learn, through each others' differences. Tolerance in all cultures is the basis of peace and progress.
Our country was founded on the basic idea that all man and women are created equal with liberty and justice for all. We must respect and preserve the rights of all, for when the rights of one is threatened the rights of all are diminished. I would like to leave you with this story to ponder. In Germany they came for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me and by that time no one was left to speak up. Remember tolerance and mercy have always and in all cultures been ideals of government rule and human behavior. Today, we call these ideals human rights. Human rights are to be respected and preserved if we are progress as a society and as a people.

22. Should Children be in Competive Sports at a young age?

Many parents struggle to answer the puzzling question of what the appropriate age children should start to participate in competitive sports. A subject like this is puzzling because there are many issues that must be addressed, because it is controversial.
Some parents push their children too far, too young. The average child usually will start to participate actively in competitive sports between the ages of six and twelve and can be unhealthy to a child's development. The question at what age a child should start, has a different answer for each individual child. Parents often fail to realize that their child may not be physically ready for competitive sports. I believe that a child should participate in sports only if he is wanting to participate and is not pushed by their parents. Some parents may think he is ready, but is probably not. Determining whether or not a child is ready for competitive sports can sometimes be difficult to answer, because to determine if they are ready a child must be mentally ready also. Sports not only take physical strength, but a child must have psychological capacity to get them through such strenuous activity. A child may sometimes become scared when participating in sports. For example, A mother of an eight-year-old Peewee Football player explained, "The kids get so scared. They get hit once and they don't want anything to do with football anymore. They'll sit on the bench and pretend their leg hurts...". The psychological part of the story would be that the child would be so scared that he might get hurt which causes physical hurt as well as mental hurt and may scar the child for the rest of their life, when that child could of been the next pro-football player of the next century.
A child should not be competitive at an early age, they should be having fun and playing the sport in wanting to and not being pushed to do so. When I was younger, I participated on the swim team so I was introduced to the Competition at the age of six. My parents never pushed me to do well, they always made sure that I was having fun and that it did not matter if I win or lose. I think every parent should understand, if their child is going to start competing at a young age, that the child is having fun and not getting criticized for their mistakes when they lose

23. Should voting in election be compulsory?

In many countries around the world individuals can choose to vote, or not to vote, as they see fit. However In some countries (Australia, Switzerland and Singapore, for example) it is compulsory to vote in elections. This essay will go further to discuss about compulsory voting
The right to vote in a democracy has been fought for throughout modern history. In the last century alone the soldiers of numerous wars and the suffragettes of many countries fought and died for enfranchisement. We should respect their sacrifice by voting
Sometimes it is assumed that people who are forced to vote will not make a proper considered decision. But people who know they had right to vote will take politics more seriously and start to take a more active role.
Some people would also argue that the idea is not feasible. If a large proportion of the population decided not to vote it would be impossible to make every non-voter pay the fine. However Compulsory voting is effective. In Australia the turnouts are as high as 98%!
A high turnout is important for a proper democratic mandate and the functioning of democracy. In this sense voting is a civic duty like Jury service. Jury service is compulsory in order that the courts can function properly, on the same account compulsory voting should be carried out for the benefit of a nation.
